What are vaccines and why should you get your pet vaccinated?
Vaccines are either a killed or modified version of the disease you are vaccinating against. This helps the body to create antibodies to identify and destroy the disease causing organisms if they come into contact with that particular disease.
Vaccinations are important to protect your pet, others’ pets, and even yourself.
They help keep your pet from contracting the disease completely or making sure the body can fight it off with minimal clinical disease. Immunocompromised pets may not be able to get vaccinations or their immune systems don’t create proper antibodies to fight the organisms. Keeping your pet vaccinated decreases the spread of disease to those pets unable to receive vaccines. It also helps you stay safe as some diseases are zoonotic, which means they can be passed from animals to humans or vice versa.
